John Boyne
“I’ve loved libraries since I was a child, when my mother brought me to the Carnegie Library in Dundrum every Wednesday after school. She stayed on the ground floor, with the adult books, I ran upstairs to find Bobby Brewster, and Tintin, and the Secret Seven, and Jim Hawkins. I could have sat up there for hours. Those Wednesday afternoons gave me my love of books and, almost simultaneously, my love of writing. There’s no better place to read than in a library, surrounded by literature and by people who also understand the value of good books, how important they are to our lives and our culture.”
John Boyne was born in Dublin in 1971. He is the author of 7 novels for adults, including most recently The Absolutist, and 2 for children, including The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas. He has won two Irish Book Awards, the Bisto Book of the Year Award, and his novels are published in over 40 languages.
